#shamber spent the first day of SXSW investigating the scene at South By Southwest Interactive. The name of the game this year is photo booths. New York photo booth company, The Bosco, is heavily present throughout town, and is working with both Game of Thrones and Mashable to facilitate fun themed photo booths that produce take-home photos that can be shared easily through social media:
On the theme of photos, we are picking up what Oreo is throwing down. Their photo scavenger hunt booth is playful and fun, offering the chance to interact with both Oreo and local businesses. The premise is that participants are super imposed onto the storefront of an Austin business and they have to guess the name for a chance to win great prizes.
Also interesting to us this year is the emergence of Vine. Shannon and I were in line waiting for a photo with Internet meme sensation, Grumpy Cat (see photo below), and picked the brains of some young college students to find out what social platform they are using.
Aside from Facebook and Instagram, Vine came up too. Mashable is working with Now This News on a Vine promotion that invites users to create their #6SecondPitch for a great idea. The winner will receive promotion on Mashable’s website and a meeting with a partner at Lerer Ventures. Here’s Shannon’s amazing idea to develop content that teaches children about real food:
When we weren’t exploring activations, we were hanging with startups and meeting Internet famous people like Brian Solis (omg!). We’re looking forward to exploring more of Austin and SXSW the rest of the week. We’re just getting warmed up!
