Twestival – Tweetup for Charity
Tonight, twitter peeps from around the world will be descending upon their local twestival – 175 in all- all in support of one amazing initiative – raising money for charity: water. Charity: water is a non-profit bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations.
According to twestival:
By getting together globally, under short timescales, for a single aim on the same day, the Twestival hopes to bring awareness to this global crisis.
Right now 1.1 billion people on the planet don’t have access to safe, clean drinking water. That’s one in six of us.
Unsafe water and lack of basic sanitation cause 80% of all sickness and disease, and kill more people every year than all forms of violence, including war.
Vancouver’s twestival is being held at the Opus (who donated the space to the event as well as 6% of bar sales for the evening) and has been organized by Vancouver’s own amazingly giving and busy Rebecca Bollwitt (Miss604).
Vancouver’s support of this cause has been outstanding, the event is competely sold out with people still looking for tickets – I believe that the final number of tickets sold is somewhere between 200 – 250. The event starts at 6 pm tonight with a free drink supplied by Molson – one of the sponsors of the event. This will be followed with a raffle and silent auction – which with over $4000 in prizes being given away is sure to be one of the highlights of the evening. If you are attending, make sure that you tag tweet, pictures, videos, etc with #yvrtwestival so everyone can find it easily.
If you can’t join any of the arranged twestivals being held today, you can still get involved. Join us by:
- Attending one of the events detailed on the city sites listed on this page.
- Uploading or buying music at Twestival.fm.
- Buying an official Twestival t-shirt.
- Taking part in the eBay auction.
- Watching Twestival live and pre-recorded video.
- Donating to charity: water.
The Twestival is organized 100% by volunteers in cities around the world and 100% of the money raised from these events will go directly to support charity: water projects.
6S Marketing is proud to be a sponsor of this great event and are happy that in our small way we were able to help make this evening happen. Make sure you look out for the 6S crew tonight who will be there in force.
