Social Media Tool Foursquare to take on Google, Twitter & Facebook in Canada says @6S_Marketing
Wednesday, August 26th, 2009Vancouver Internet marketing company, 6S Marketing (@6S_Marketing), predicts that Foursquare will be the next ‘big thing’ in social media and will rival the likes of Twitter, Facebook, and Google’s location based product Latitude. 6S Marketing’s President, Chris Breikss, is leading the charge in working to bring Foursquare to Vancouver and has launched a campaign on Twitter to collect votes from the public.
Foursquare pairs location based services with social game play to allow users to interact with Twitter networks via mobile phone. Foursquare is already wildly popular in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and San Diego.
According to Foursquare Co-Founder, Dennis Crowley, the company will launch in Canada in late 2009, as mentioned in the following tweet to Chris Breikss: “If it takes us until November to launch Vancouver, I’ll send you a six-pack of Brooklyn Lager. (hopefully it’s much sooner)”
Tech blogs such as Mashable are speculating that Foursquare “…May Be the Next Twitter” and TechCrunch believes in Foursquare’s “Business Potential of Location-Based Services.”
With more than 40% of Canadians using social media, 6S Marketing predicts in a recent blog post that Foursquare will launch in Vancouver and Toronto in late summer or early fall of 2009 and be the most widely used mobile application ever.

Tweet With Us at Massive Tech Show 2009
Thursday, March 26th, 20096S Marketing is sponsoring the Massive Technology Show, being held at UBC Robson Square on April 1st, 2009.
6S is putting a unique spin on traditional networking & tradeshows this year by introducing a social media twist to the mainly focused technology show.
At a typical networking event, attendees mingle and pass out business cards. But we noticed that business cards, as they currently exist, don’t often list Twitter IDs or links to other online forums. So for people looking to use social media for business and personal networking there is a disconnect.” explains Chris Breikss, Co-Founder and President of 6S Marketing.
The 6S Marketing Twitter theme will encourage attendees to visit the 6S booth and “tweet” (using Twitter) that they are at The Massive Tech Show. Photos (“twitpics”) of booth visitors will be taken on a 6S backdrop will be uploaded and announced on Twitter throughout the day, so that the Vancouver community gets to take a live look at who is attending the tradeshow and conference….Read the full press release

Twitter Beats Business Cards at the 2009 Massive Tech Show
Thursday, March 26th, 2009VANCOUVER, BC, March 26, 2009 – 6S Marketing, one of North America’s top internet marketing companies, announces its sponsorship of the 2009 Massive Technology Show and plans to make waves at the event with a unique campaign to promote networking through Twitter.
“At a typical networking event, attendees mingle and pass out business cards. But we noticed that business cards, as they currently exist, don’t often list Twitter IDs or links to other online forums. So for people looking to use social media for business and personal networking there is a disconnect.” explains Chris Breikss, Co-Founder and President of 6S Marketing.
“At 6S, we recognize that social media is increasingly becoming a useful tool for people and businesses, and we wanted to incorporate it into our presence at Massive Tech. Our Twitter themed booth will provide a creative way for attendees to connect at the show that may see them gain an interest in Twitter and social media in general.”
The 6S Marketing Twitter theme will encourage attendees to visit the 6S booth and “tweet” (using Twitter) that they are at The Massive Tech Show. Photos (“twitpics”) of booth visitors will be taken on a 6S backdrop will be uploaded and announced on Twitter throughout the day, so that the Vancouver community gets to take a live look at who is attending the tradeshow and conference.
Additionally, each person who tweets will receive a 6S “twee-shirt” (t-shirt) and access to a sharpie pen. Attendees can then wear or carry around their “twee-shirts” and when they meet someone they can have them write their Twitter ID on the shirt as a substitute for swapping business cards. At the end of the show, attendees are left with the “twee-shirt” memento and a collection of new Twitter friends. The 6S booth will allow access to what is going on at Massive and allow attendees to interact with the online community.
Following the successful launch of the Social Media Marketing division, 6S continues to stay on the cutting edge of new techniques and trends in the social media space. The overall concept for the live Twitter feed during the show as well as the “twee-shirts” was developed to encourage the Vancouver business community to adopt new ways of thinking about networking and business through social media.
“We want to demonstrate that traditional networking, with a social media twist will allow individuals and businesses to further amplify messages and connect with others. We look forward to Twittering alongside everyone at Massive and seeing plenty of people wearing “twee-shirts” roaming around on April 1st.” comments Breikss. “We are hoping to bring a new networking experience to the show, and to have a great deal of fun in the process.”
The 2009 Massive Technology Show will be held on April 1, 2009 at UBC Robson Square. For more information visit: www.massivetechshow.com.

Survey Says…Canadians are Crazy About Social Media
Tuesday, March 24th, 2009FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 18, 2009 – Vancouver, BC – Amidst all the buzz surrounding social media and popular networking sites, 6S Marketing, one of North America’s largest internet marketing firms, has conducted a survey to investigate trends in Canadian social media usage. Survey results reveal an overwhelming percentage of Canadians who have adopted social media for business and personal use and highlight the most popular forums and mediums for communication.
“Collecting statistics on social media trends is important in ensuring that efforts made on behalf of our clients in the social media space are targeted and amplified,” says Chris Breikss, Co-founder and President of 6S Marketing. “Beyond that, it was simply fascinating to gather the most up-to-date information on how and why Canadians are drawn to social media.”
On the heels of recent expansion of services to include Social Media Marketing, 6S created and distributed the survey to a database of over 10,000 Canadians including members of the Vancouver Board of Trade. The survey polled Canadians on the purpose of their social media use, as well as the popularity of the available sites and the effectiveness of using this medium.
Survey highlights include:
• 70% of Canadians say they use social media.
• Facebook is the most popular social networking site with 70% of people surveyed currently having an account.
• 47% of Canadians use Twitter and the majority of users are 19 – 25 years of age.
• Only 20% of people surveyed currently use MySpace.
• YouTube & Flickr are the most popular social media sites with 38% & 29% (respectively) of people surveyed using the sites.
• 42% of Canadians do not blog, while 58% do blog.
• 74% of people who blog, do so for personal purposes, 57% blog for work and 35% blog for both.
• 9% of people surveyed have hired an employee online and 22% have received a job offer online. 69% have done neither.
• 61% of businesses said they track what people are saying about their brand online.
“The face of communications has shifted dramatically. It is our belief that social media provides businesses and people the ability to connect with communities and networks as they increasingly live and work online. Our survey results indicate enormous potential for our clients to participate in the social media realm,” comments Breikss.

No Tweet Points For You
Friday, March 6th, 2009The following is the text of an email that I received today. At first, I thought that USHandicap.com had come up with a really cool new application that allowed you to track your golf scores and interact with your Twitter golfing buddies. Sadly this is not the case and they seem to think that they have invented the word “tweet” and the concept of tweeting. Somehow tweeting without Twitter isn’t the same, ya know?
