Social Media Tool Foursquare to take on Google, Twitter & Facebook in Canada says @6S_Marketing

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Vancouver Internet marketing company, 6S Marketing (@6S_Marketing), predicts that Foursquare will be the next ‘big thing’ in social media and will rival the likes of Twitter, Facebook, and Google’s location based product Latitude. 6S Marketing’s President, Chris Breikss, is leading the charge in working to bring Foursquare to Vancouver and has launched a campaign on Twitter to collect votes from the public.

Foursquare pairs location based services with social game play to allow users to interact with Twitter networks via mobile phone. Foursquare is already wildly popular in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and San Diego.

According to Foursquare Co-Founder, Dennis Crowley, the company will launch in Canada in late 2009, as mentioned in the following tweet to Chris Breikss: “If it takes us until November to launch Vancouver, I’ll send you a six-pack of Brooklyn Lager. (hopefully it’s much sooner)”

Tech blogs such as Mashable are speculating that Foursquare “…May Be the Next Twitter” and TechCrunch believes in Foursquare’s “Business Potential of Location-Based Services.”

With more than 40% of Canadians using social media, 6S Marketing predicts in a recent blog post that Foursquare will launch in Vancouver and Toronto in late summer or early fall of 2009 and be the most widely used mobile application ever.

Facebook Privacy and the Canadian Government

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Our very own Chris Breikss – President and Co-Founder of 6S Marketing -  was featured on the Saturday Morning Global TV News last Saturday morning with Sophie Lui to discuss Facebook and the Canadian Government’s privacy policies.

Jennifer Stoddart, the Canadian Privacy Commissioner criticizes that Facebook retains user information after users have closed their accounts and that too much private data is provided to 3rd party developers. Facebook has been given 30 days to implement changes to meet the concerns of the Canadian Government.

Chris speaks to the fact that Facebook does offer high privacy settings for account users but some people  may not be fully aware of these settings. He also further goes onto saying that there are some great applications on Facebook created by 3th party developers, but there should be more  screening to weed out spammy applications.

He believes that Facebook will make the appropriate changes the Canadian government is looking for, as they have continued to improve the overall privacy settings as the social network has exploded in popularity.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 18, 2009 – Vancouver, BC – Amidst all the buzz surrounding social media and popular networking sites, 6S Marketing, one of North America’s largest internet marketing firms, has conducted a survey to investigate trends in Canadian social media usage. Survey results reveal an overwhelming percentage of Canadians who have adopted social media for business and personal use and highlight the most popular forums and mediums for communication.

“Collecting statistics on social media trends is important in ensuring that efforts made on behalf of our clients in the social media space are targeted and amplified,” says Chris Breikss, Co-founder and President of 6S Marketing. “Beyond that, it was simply fascinating to gather the most up-to-date information on how and why Canadians are drawn to social media.”

On the heels of recent expansion of services to include Social Media Marketing, 6S created and distributed the survey to a database of over 10,000 Canadians including members of the Vancouver Board of Trade. The survey polled Canadians on the purpose of their social media use, as well as the popularity of the available sites and the effectiveness of using this medium.

Survey highlights include:

• 70% of Canadians say they use social media.

• Facebook is the most popular social networking site with 70% of people surveyed currently having an account.

• 47% of Canadians use Twitter and the majority of users are 19 – 25 years of age.

• Only 20% of people surveyed currently use MySpace.

• YouTube & Flickr are the most popular social media sites with 38% & 29% (respectively) of people surveyed using the sites.

• 42% of Canadians do not blog, while 58% do blog.

• 74% of people who blog, do so for personal purposes, 57% blog for work and 35% blog for both.

• 9% of people surveyed have hired an employee online and 22% have received a job offer online. 69% have done neither.

New Reporting Metrics from Facebook

Thursday, November 13th, 2008

Facebook first introduced “Facebook Ads” just over one year ago, November 6th, 2007. Facebook Ads are a fantastic way to deliver ad content and marketing messages to a highly targeted demographic of online users and allows those users to promote your brand, business and products through trusted referrals of their friends.

Business owners and marketing agencies alike who took advantage of this highly targeted marketing medium have found it easy to target exactly who they want – whether it be a trendy hotel wanting to target only females in the Vancouver area between the ages of 15 – 39 for a Valentine’s Day special – or a restaurant recruiting employees to work in their newly opened location in Toronto – the highly specific demographic targeting has allowed business owners to reach their target markets; however with one major drawback.

The reporting capabilities which Facebook Ads delivered at that time did not deliver valuable insights such as which Ads resulted in the most conversions.

Announced yesterday, Facebook has launched three new Insight reports that will help marketers and business owners better understand how Facebook Ads are performing. The three new reports are:

“Responder Demographics” report: Facebook users spend a lot of time connecting with friends and family on Facebook – uploading photos, writing on each others’ Walls, posting notes. This report now allows business owners to find out who is interacting with your ads. This report provides the aggregate age, gender and geographic location of the users who have clicked on your Facebook Ad.

“Responder Profiles” report: In addition to age, gender and geographic location of the users who have clicked on your ad, this report provides psychographic information of these same users. This data is aggregated from user profiles and shows common interests, favorite TV shows, movies, books and music.

“Advertising Performance” report: This report will give you a downloadable version of the performance information you already see online– impressions, clicks and click-through rates—as well as a new section for performance data by unique user and performance data specific to your ads that contained social actions, if applicable.

These three reports are available at the Account, Campaign, or Ad level are can be easily downloaded to an excel spreadsheet for reporting purposes. A “View” option allows you to view reports broken down by month, weekly or daily time frames.

In an official release yesterday, Facebook has stated that these reporting capabilities are only the beginning in the new Insight reporting center it hopes to offers its advertisers and will be adding more metrics over time.
