Twitter launched there. Foursquare lunched there too. Now 6S Marketing is launching our “Untangle the Web” approach to online marketing strategies at SXSW 2010. The annual conference, taking place from March 12th – 21st, is one of the top tech conferences in North America and always attracts tech heavyweights including Google, Blackberry, and Microsoft.

SXSW has not only gained a reputation for being the “must attend” conference for techies, but it also has been the launching pad for some of the most influential toys and devices of the technology world. Twitter, Foursquare, and countless other sites and mobile apps have all launched at SXSW. Read More

Foursquare adds Montreal and Toronto

Foursquare Toronto

Following the success of the launch in Vancouver last month, Foursquare has added 2 more Canadian cities Montreal and Toronto. They also added 13 more US cities but this blog post is not about that. A quick search on Twitter shows a slew of challenges from Torontonians saying that they are going to out-Foursquare Vancouver. Here’s an example.

There has always been a rivalry between Vancouver and Toronto, and in the past few years it has heated up. They accuse us of being lazy and smoking pot all the time, but if you actually look at how many Vancouverites are checking in at restaurants, galleries and cafes, (and hockey arenas) on Foursquare, you would soon figure out that we are actually a cultured bunch.

The Next Big Thing: Foursquare to Launch in Vancouver

Foursquare Vancouver

– EDIT — Foursquare Launches in Vancouver Sept. 9, 2009.

I stumbled upon a new social media tool recently that I think has the legs to emerge as the most widely played mobile game ever and become the ‘next big thing’.

It’s called Foursquare and it’s taking major American cities by storm including New York and San Francisco and is coming to Vancouver soon. Foursquare developers describe it as “50% friend finder, 30% social city guide, 20% nightlife game.” I think, that with the strength of the social media community in Vancouver, we will be the first city in Canada in which it thrives. Facebook Privacy and the Canadian Government

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Our very own Chris Breikss – President and Co-Founder of 6S Marketing -  was featured on the Saturday Morning Global TV News last Saturday morning with Sophie Lui to discuss Facebook and the Canadian Government’s privacy policies.

Jennifer Stoddart, the Canadian Privacy Commissioner criticizes that Facebook retains user information after users have closed their accounts and that too much private data is provided to 3rd party developers. Facebook has been given 30 days to implement changes to meet the concerns of the Canadian Government.

Chris speaks to the fact that Facebook does offer high privacy settings for account users but some people  may not be fully aware of these settings. He also further goes onto saying that there are some great applications on Facebook created by 3th party developers, but there should be more  screening to weed out spammy applications.

He believes that Facebook will make the appropriate changes the Canadian government is looking for, as they have continued to improve the overall privacy settings as the social network has exploded in popularity.

Ideas On Tap To Fill The Commodore Ballroom

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Vancouver, BC, June 4, 2009 – It will be more brains, business and beer than ever at the Commodore Ballroom on June 11th. Vancouver’s most popular business and technology networking event, Ideas on Tap, is back in a very big way. Literally.  Hosted by 6S Marketing and presented by Elastic Path Software, Ideas on Tap has become so popular that it has outgrown its original venue (Yaletown Brewing Co.) and will now see industry enthusiasts gather at the Commodore to sip, chat, pitch, share and more.

“We were hopeful that bringing Ideas on Tap back in Vancouver would be well received.” says Chris Breikss, Co-Founder and President of 6S Marketing. “We didn’t anticipate the extent to which is was, however, and are truly impressed at the size and strength of the tech and business community that this city boasts. We are having a great time planning and hosting this event.”

6S Marketing originally introduced Ideas on Tap in October 2008 and enjoyed attendance of a dynamic audience of over 250 web developers, social media marketers, internet marketers, designers, videographers, bloggers and e-commerce experts and more.

The growing popularity of Ideas on Tap clearly demonstrates the mobilization of the Vancouver tech and business community and with this third installment of the event, the willingness and desire of those within the industries to interact, share and have a great time is more apparent than ever.  Over 650 people have already registered for Ideas on Tap and final numbers are expected to hit the 800 mark. The event is slated to be one of the largest networking gatherings in the city annually.

The upcoming Ideas on Tap will feature cut throat-style elevator pitches from some of the industry’s most savvy business leaders, and the pressure is on.  Presenting on-stage, under the spotlight and in front of hundreds of peers and colleagues, speakers will have only 60-seconds to present a compelling company or business pitch. The winner will be chosen via the loudest applause from the crowd.

Presenting sponsor, Elastic Path, has also created some exciting highlights for attendees. The company will be giving away tickets to The Blue Man Group, but guests are going to have to crack the code, so to speak, to win (we can’t tell you any more than that). The company will also be handing out $1000 cheques to the crowd as they arrive. There is, however, a catch, as the cheques are a creative stunt to promote the fact that Elastic Path is thriving and expanding. Anyone who provides a referral to the company that translates into an actual hire, will get to cash their cheque.

Expecting inevitable overflow for the event, Doolin’s Pub has been confirmed to host after-parties.

The upcoming Ideas on Tap will be held on Thursday June 11, 2009 at the Commodore Ballroom at 5:30pm.

“We would love to see this event continue to grow.  For the next Ideas on Tap we just might have to book GM Place,” jokes Breikss.

Valued Employees Behind 6S’ Success

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

The dot.com crash of almost a decade ago left a lot of people reeling after promises of big stock options and payouts that didn’t pan out.

As pool tables in trendy loft offices were replaced by dust bunnies and boxes, longtime friends Chris Breikss and John Blown decided to take a chance and stride back into the online business arena.

Now eight years and 30 employees later, the pair’s 6S Marketing company is a bona-fide success.

“We know it was a bit of a bizarre time to start an Internet-related company,” Breikss says of 6S, which deals with Internet advertising and marketing. “But we looked at it closely and saw a lot of opportunity and a void we could fill”…Read Full Story

Valued Employees the “6S” behind 6S Marketing

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

As an Account Manger in the Internet Marketing industry working with a previous employer, I knew that 6S Marketing was THE place to work long before I had even stepped in the door. And others in the industry knew it too – as soon as others found out about my initial interview at 6S, my phone began to ring off-the-hook from other internet marketers wanting a hook-up.

A year-and-a-half later, working at 6S has been an amazing experience and opportunity. The culture that John Blown & Chris Breikss has created, along with the amazing people I work with, is unlike any other company I have worked for or know of in Vancouver. Sure, the Whistler weekend trips, go-karting, rock climbing & white-water rafting trips add to the great experience, but it’s the people who work at 6S, and having two amazing employers like John & Chris that make it one of the best places to work in Vancouver…Read the full story
