Chris Breikss from 6S Marketing presented “The New Social Media Impact on SEM” at Social Media Week in Vancouver and discussed how Google+ is changing search engine marketing and optimization as well as how social media networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter are affecting it.
Excellent presentation Chris - thanks. How long do you think before someone files a complaint with the FTC about Google using G+ and +1 to boost search and hence their page views and blocking out or disfavouring competitors like Twitter and Facebook.
@Chris Burdge: Hi Chris, I think that we are going to see a significant amount of abuse of the Google+1 button and black-hat-like techniques by shady marketers. That being said, Google has been great with dealing with abuse in the past hence my comment about "not all +1s are created equal." I think that your +1 history, comments, shares, custom circles, profile details will all carry weight with the value of your +1 or blocking activity. I would love to hear from Matt Cutts what there plans for preventing abuse are but I doubt that he will share that information as it would just give the abusers more details to work with. Great question!
That's a great ppt.
However, I am a bit questionning myself and others.. People saying that g+ is finally not a revolution are more and more increasing. The traffic goes apparently down. What will come next if google can't compete with Facebook? 10 millions users after 16 days but what about now after 3 months?
@guillaume: After 3 months, Google+ has over 40 millions users and got 10 millions new users in the next 2 days after they made Google+ open to anyone.
It still far from the almost 800 million users on Facebook, but for the short term Google+ has been released, these numbers are quite impressive.
