SearchWiki Released Today
It’s called SearchWiki, and on the Official Google Blog today the tag line appears as “Make Search Your Own”; it’s just one of the additional steps Google has taken to make search personalized for its users.
SearchWiki allows Google-ers (who are logged into their Google accounts) to rank, delete, add and even comment on sites which appear in search results. By clicking on the green “promote” button which appears alongside search results, you can easily move your favorite websites to the top positions of the serps. The idea is, this only moves the particular site which receives a “promotion” in personal Google account searches and is only seen by the account owner and other Google account community members. The “promotions” assigned to sites while signed into a Google account do not show in regular search results. The search history and “promotions” which are assigned to sites are then saved for later searches performed within your own personal Google account.
So not to worry fellow Internet Marketers – this does not work against the fabulous optimization you’ve been doing; in my opinion however; it drives the message home that the optimization you are doing should be getting the highest rankings possible for your client’s websites (something I’m sure you’re doing, or trying to do all the time). So brush up on your optimization skills to ensure your client(s) websites are high enough to get a “promotion”.
SearchWiki also allows a Google account owner to share your “search insights” with other searchers. You can simply see other search results edited by others in the Google account community by clicking “See all notes for this SearchWiki” link.
