New AuthorityLabs Features

As we mentioned a while back, AuthorityLabs is our favorite new rank-checking software, and the most effective agency solution we’ve seen on the market. AuthorityLabs is great for a number of reasons, it’s reliable, doesn’t hide the reality of localized SERP results, and doesn’t bog down your company (or home) networks.

But we’ve talked about all that before, what’s new that deserves a second post?

Allowing us to assign tags to keywords is great, though it takes a little bit of patience to set up at first. This is an awesome feature that I’m frankly surprised we haven’t seen in the past, it seems so obvious. By tagging keywords and key phrases we can track the performance of specific keyword groupings that may have effects on specific target pages or product groups.

Saves a lot of time in analysis and reporting.

Rolling Averages
graphs
Being able to calculate ranking data based on different rolling averages lets you provide more effective insight for your business or clients. AuthorityLabs launched with the ability to make some great graphs for reports and presentations, as well as being able to export the raw data to excel, but now we can change the time period of the graph, and the date from which the ranking changes are calculated.

This provides some good flexibility in how you present your data to clients or your boss.

Account Access Features
account-access
Brand new is a heavily bolstered account system, with permission levels. This allows us to give clients who desire regular ranking reporting direct access to the data. This is also very useful when working in tandem with other contractors or marketing firms on a central project.

Minigraphs
mini-graphs

The minigraphs are not that new of a feature, but they have no been included to show the trend of average Google, Yahoo!, and Bing rankings. This is great information to have at a glance, and makes for an effective dashboard.

Ok, cool features… we get it, what’s the catch?

Well there’s two things I suppose, firstly you have to be advanced enough of an online marketer to make sense of these numbers and to use the software correctly. It’s a great service but it’s not going to do your job for you.

Secondly there’s price – AuthorityLabs is not free… at all. If you’re hoping to track 2000 keywords per day for your website that makes $100/month, then this is definitely not the services you’re looking for. For agencies tracking tens or hundreds of accounts however, AuthorityLabs is a huge time-saver, and a major step forward over pretty much every service out there in terms of reliability, feature development, and reporting options.
