Harry’s Spring Run Off for Prostate Cancer

Before the Race

Before the Race

Last Sunday, a group from 6S Marketing woke up early and headed into the cold for the second year to run in the Harry Rosen Spring Run Off for Prostate Cancer. We headed down to Lumberman’s Arch in Stanley Park and joined just over 1,000 people for the run.

The race took us around scenic Stanley Park – starting and ending at Lumberman’s Arch. All event proceeds collected  go to support prostate cancer research at the Prostate Centre at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH).

About Prostate Cancer

One in every eight men will face the diagnosis of prostate cancer during his lifetime. It will strike almost 25,000 Canadian men this year. Prostate cancer will kill over 4,300 Canadian men this year and it is the second leading cause of male cancer death  and is the most frequently diagnosed cancer in Canadian men.

British Columbia has the highest per capita rate of prostate cancer diagnosis in Canada. It also has the lowest mortality rate, due primarily to the leading edge treatment and care offered in this Province. Doctors now have a better understanding of prostate cancer and are using screening, both through digital rectal exams and PSA tests, to detect the cancer earlier.

The Prostate Centre at VGH

Founded in 1998, the Prostate Centre at VGH has become Canada’s leading — and one of the world’s foremost — prostate cancer research and treatment centres. Over 2,500 patients are seen annually by the Prostate Centre. The Prostate Centre’s surgeons and researchers have developed and delivered optimized care results to men with prostate cancer. While BC has the highest incidence of prostate cancer in Canada, it also has the lowest mortality rate thanks to the pioneering treatments and innovative research that take place here.
