Foursquare Vancouver Launch Day Info

Foursquare Vancouver
The popular location-based game Foursquare launches in Vancouver next Wednesday, September 9th (09/09/09).

6S Marketing has been working with Foursquare to coordinate a unique and experimental launch strategy to bring the game to Vancouver. The greater Vancouver online community is invited to add their favorite locations and venues to Foursquare starting on the launch date. This will be the first time that Foursquare has launched in a new city by inviting its users to seed the initial data.

“Instead of Foursquare seeding Vancouver with venues, we’ll let the users take a stab at providing content. If we can successfully crowd source a city launch like this, we think that the concept has global potential and we’ll definitely try it in other cities.” explains Foursquare founder Dennis Crowley.”

Vancouver businesses are invited to add their locations and set-up special promotions to attract and acknowledge Foursquare users. Business owners can also find more details on the business section of the Foursquare web site at http://playfoursquare.com/businesses/.

If you need further help with listing your business or want to set-up a special promotion for your business and need help with the marketing strategy, please contact us at: foursquare@6smarketing.com.

To celebrate the official launch day we are hosting the Foursquare Vancouver Launch Party at V Yaletown from 5pm-8pm. Users that sign up for a Foursquare account and ‘check-in’ at V Yaletown will receive a complimentary cocktail. If the party gets busy, priority will be given to those that can prove they have a Foursquare account.

How are some ideas on how you can prepare for next Wednesday’s “Foursquare Vancouver Launch Day”:

1) Visit the Foursquare web site. Or their mobile site.
2) Sign up for a Foursquare account or sign in using your Facebook account. Signing up for an account will make it easier for your friends to find you on launch day.
3) Select Seattle as your city for now (you can change it to Vancouver on Sept. 9, 2009).
4) Sync with your Twitter account
5) Sync with your Facebook account
6) Add a profile picture

On Vancouver Launch day:

1) Add your favourite restaurants, pubs, cafes etc.
2) Add parks, book stores, other places you frequent
3) Search first, and make sure you are not adding duplicate content
4) Find your friends and add them to your network
5) Check-in via Foursquare at V in Yaletown for the ‘Foursquare Vancouver Launch Party’ on 9/9/9 from 5-8pm and show your server or bartender, to score a custom Foursquare cocktail. RSVP on Facebook.

“Vancouver has a strong online community and high participation on social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook that are complimentary to Foursquare,” states Chris Breikss, Co-Founder and President of 6S Marketing. “At 6S we are connected to the online community and as a result are helping to facilitate the launch of a product that we think will be the ‘next big thing’ in social media.”
