6S Untangling the Web at SXSW 2010

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

SXSW is undoubtedly one of the largest and most internationally known tech conferences in North America. The annual conference attracts tech industry heavyweights such as Google, Foursquare, Twitter, and Blackberry. This year Vancouver’s 6S Marketing (@6S_Marketing) has a hunch that the annual conference has much more in store than the usual festivities. The company represents the largest contingency of Vancouverites flocking to the legendary conference in anticipation of buzz around location-based apps and functions, as well as the chance to share on the importance of strategy in ‘untangling the web’.

From a booth space on the SXSW floor, 6S Marketing Company Founders Chris Breikss and John Blown will be joined by Cydney Shapiro, Jenn Lowther and Lyn Wilson to uncover tactics for “untangling the web”. Focusing on strategy is the best and first place to start when looking at a company’s web strategy and determining which of the many directions online, will fit their goals best. Broken into four categories for action, 6S points to four levels of strategy critical to delivering online success:

  • Situation Analysis – Understanding your online business and marketing objectives.
  • Define Target Market – Who are your audience segments and where do they live online and off?
  • Define Messaging Channel Strategies – Develop a consistent message and branding strategy for distribution across various online mediums.
  • Content Strategy – Develop a concise content strategy that communicates brand messaging clearly and effectively.

At a conference renown for launching the “next big thing”, 6S Marketing Founder and President, Chris Breikss, believes that 2010 will not disappoint. Breikss, along with Techcrunch and CNET, believes that geo-location based apps and features will dominate as the hot-topic at SXSW and that Twitter may be making specific announcements around this. Twitter made an unforgettable introduction at SXSW four years ago, which many point to as the services’ tipping point.

“It would only be fitting that Twitter announces new geo-location features at the same conference where they were first launched,” comments Breikss. “We look forward to learning about it as it will relate to the internet marketing industry.”

6S Supports United Way and in the Process Boosts Staff Morale

Monday, October 26th, 2009

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

VANCOUVER, BC, October 26, 2009 – As an official partner of the campaign to enhance United Way of the Lower Mainland’s online presence, 6S Marketing has provided pro bono online marketing services and in the process engaged and motivated its staff.  Through important community support, 6S has effectively captured a direct and positive correlation between pro bono or community-based work and employee satisfaction.

“The online marketing services that we have provided on behalf of United Way are the perfect opportunity for us to support an organization that aims to improve communities and change lives,” says Chris Breikss, 6S Marketing Co-Founder and President. “It has also given the team at 6S a chance to be involved with a great cause and stay active within the community.”

Working alongside Domain 7 and Veratta, 6S is providing online marketing services to the United Way of the Lower Mainland, as a part of an overall online initiative aimed at raising awareness for the organizations’ cause. The project is centered on redesigning the website over the course of ten months. The work done by 6S Marketing also integrates the use of social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr to engage and inform online readers.

Social Media Tool Foursquare to take on Google, Twitter & Facebook in Canada says @6S_Marketing

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

Vancouver Internet marketing company, 6S Marketing (@6S_Marketing), predicts that Foursquare will be the next ‘big thing’ in social media and will rival the likes of Twitter, Facebook, and Google’s location based product Latitude. 6S Marketing’s President, Chris Breikss, is leading the charge in working to bring Foursquare to Vancouver and has launched a campaign on Twitter to collect votes from the public.

Foursquare pairs location based services with social game play to allow users to interact with Twitter networks via mobile phone. Foursquare is already wildly popular in San Francisco, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta, Chicago and San Diego.

According to Foursquare Co-Founder, Dennis Crowley, the company will launch in Canada in late 2009, as mentioned in the following tweet to Chris Breikss: “If it takes us until November to launch Vancouver, I’ll send you a six-pack of Brooklyn Lager. (hopefully it’s much sooner)”

Tech blogs such as Mashable are speculating that Foursquare “…May Be the Next Twitter” and TechCrunch believes in Foursquare’s “Business Potential of Location-Based Services.”

With more than 40% of Canadians using social media, 6S Marketing predicts in a recent blog post that Foursquare will launch in Vancouver and Toronto in late summer or early fall of 2009 and be the most widely used mobile application ever.

Google Local provides the ability for any business to literally take its place on the virtual map,” explains 6S Marketing Co-Founder and Managing Director, John Blown. “In our opinion, every business needs to be listed on Google Maps and through Google Local and our latest white paper serves to help navigate and explain the entire process.”

The 6S Marketing white paper outlines recommendations and best practices for accurate and effective Google Local listings that ensure credibility and desirable search ranking. White paper highlights include:

Ideas On Tap To Fill The Commodore Ballroom

Monday, June 8th, 2009

Vancouver, BC, June 4, 2009 – It will be more brains, business and beer than ever at the Commodore Ballroom on June 11th. Vancouver’s most popular business and technology networking event, Ideas on Tap, is back in a very big way. Literally.  Hosted by 6S Marketing and presented by Elastic Path Software, Ideas on Tap has become so popular that it has outgrown its original venue (Yaletown Brewing Co.) and will now see industry enthusiasts gather at the Commodore to sip, chat, pitch, share and more.

“We were hopeful that bringing Ideas on Tap back in Vancouver would be well received.” says Chris Breikss, Co-Founder and President of 6S Marketing. “We didn’t anticipate the extent to which is was, however, and are truly impressed at the size and strength of the tech and business community that this city boasts. We are having a great time planning and hosting this event.”

6S Marketing originally introduced Ideas on Tap in October 2008 and enjoyed attendance of a dynamic audience of over 250 web developers, social media marketers, internet marketers, designers, videographers, bloggers and e-commerce experts and more.

The growing popularity of Ideas on Tap clearly demonstrates the mobilization of the Vancouver tech and business community and with this third installment of the event, the willingness and desire of those within the industries to interact, share and have a great time is more apparent than ever.  Over 650 people have already registered for Ideas on Tap and final numbers are expected to hit the 800 mark. The event is slated to be one of the largest networking gatherings in the city annually.

The upcoming Ideas on Tap will feature cut throat-style elevator pitches from some of the industry’s most savvy business leaders, and the pressure is on.  Presenting on-stage, under the spotlight and in front of hundreds of peers and colleagues, speakers will have only 60-seconds to present a compelling company or business pitch. The winner will be chosen via the loudest applause from the crowd.

Presenting sponsor, Elastic Path, has also created some exciting highlights for attendees. The company will be giving away tickets to The Blue Man Group, but guests are going to have to crack the code, so to speak, to win (we can’t tell you any more than that). The company will also be handing out $1000 cheques to the crowd as they arrive. There is, however, a catch, as the cheques are a creative stunt to promote the fact that Elastic Path is thriving and expanding. Anyone who provides a referral to the company that translates into an actual hire, will get to cash their cheque.

Expecting inevitable overflow for the event, Doolin’s Pub has been confirmed to host after-parties.

The upcoming Ideas on Tap will be held on Thursday June 11, 2009 at the Commodore Ballroom at 5:30pm.

“We would love to see this event continue to grow.  For the next Ideas on Tap we just might have to book GM Place,” jokes Breikss.

Additional information on Ideas on Tap can be found at www.ideasontap.ca/blog

Twitter Beats Business Cards at the 2009 Massive Tech Show

Thursday, March 26th, 2009

VANCOUVER, BC, March 26, 20096S Marketing, one of North America’s top internet marketing companies, announces its sponsorship of the 2009 Massive Technology Show and plans to make waves at the event with a unique campaign to promote networking through Twitter.

“At a typical networking event, attendees mingle and pass out business cards. But we noticed that business cards, as they currently exist, don’t often list Twitter IDs or links to other online forums. So for people looking to use social media for business and personal networking there is a disconnect.” explains Chris Breikss, Co-Founder and President of 6S Marketing.

“At 6S, we recognize that social media is increasingly becoming a useful tool for people and businesses, and we wanted to incorporate it into our presence at Massive Tech. Our Twitter themed booth will provide a creative way for attendees to connect at the show that may see them gain an interest in Twitter and social media in general.”

The 6S Marketing Twitter theme will encourage attendees to visit the 6S booth and “tweet” (using Twitter) that they are at The Massive Tech Show. Photos (“twitpics”) of booth visitors will be taken on a 6S backdrop will be uploaded and announced on Twitter throughout the day, so that the Vancouver community gets to take a live look at who is attending the tradeshow and conference.

Additionally, each person who tweets will receive a 6S “twee-shirt” (t-shirt) and access to a sharpie pen. Attendees can then wear or carry around their “twee-shirts” and when they meet someone they can have them write their Twitter ID on the shirt as a substitute for swapping business cards. At the end of the show, attendees are left with the “twee-shirt” memento and a collection of new Twitter friends. The 6S booth will allow access to what is going on at Massive and allow attendees to interact with the online community.

Following the successful launch of the Social Media Marketing division, 6S continues to stay on the cutting edge of new techniques and trends in the social media space. The overall concept for the live Twitter feed during the show as well as the “twee-shirts” was developed to encourage the Vancouver business community to adopt new ways of thinking about networking and business through social media.

“We want to demonstrate that traditional networking, with a social media twist will allow individuals and businesses to further amplify messages and connect with others. We look forward to Twittering alongside everyone at Massive and seeing plenty of people wearing “twee-shirts” roaming around on April 1st.” comments Breikss. “We are hoping to bring a new networking experience to the show, and to have a great deal of fun in the process.”

The 2009 Massive Technology Show will be held on April 1, 2009 at UBC Robson Square. For more information visit: www.massivetechshow.com.
