In a continuing effort to offer hyper local targeting for your business, Google has launched “Tags for Google Places.”
Tags for Google Places are essentially yellow highlighted regions of your Google listing that draw attention to one of the following that you select;
- link to your website
These tags do not improve your search engine rankings but simply highlight your business to stand out from the other businesses in the local 10-pack of listed businesses. Icons also appear in the map area, highlighting your pictures or video.
How do you get started? When you log into your Google places account, you will have the option to “create tag” and then you can select the item that you would like to highlight and presto, you are then sent off to billing. Is this a cash grab by Google to show more revenue for greddy investors? Maybe, but for the low price of $25 per month, I think it brings good value for business who are looking to draw attention to their hyper local business and show off their videos and pictures in an effort to influence a potential customer. In my opinion, potential customers love pictures and video and it will bring value to most businesses.
One drawback? It’s currently only available in the following staes in the USA and no word on when they plan to expand into the rest oif the USA, Canada, and the rest of the world.
