For the second consecutive year 6S Marketing has been named one of BC’s Top 50 Employers by Medicorp Canada.

One of 6S’ longest employees, Michelle Berg, has worked at 6S Marketing for the past 8.5 years. Over that time, she has seen the company grow from just 4 employees to over 25, and has been there through all the company’s growing pains. It’s employees like Michelle that have helped make 6S one of the top companies to work for in BC. Here is her story:
People ask me all the time how long I have been with 6S Marketing; I still find it hard to believe it has been 8 1/2 years. Where has the time gone? When you enjoy coming to work every day and love the company you work for, it turns out that number is irrelevant.
The boys knew they were onto something big, and when John explained things to me over lunch one day and asked if I would come in and work for them – I had to say yes! Of course, the hiring process has changed over the years. There are now over 25 employees, specific departments, specialists and committees. I remember when John and Chris’s title consisted of CFO, CEO (depending who was in the office), internet marketing specialist, sales associate, human resources and accountant.
We have certainly come a long way from the tiny office (conveniently) located above the Yaletown Brew Pub, with just 4 of us struggling to navigate the emerging Internet marketing space. When you work that closely with people you don’t just become friends, you become a family. Of course we had our challenges and arguments over the years, but we always had fun. The long work hours seemed to extend into dinner, drinks, ski trips, hockey games and beach volleyball – we were inseparable back then and very happy.
As the years went on we hired more and more people and the company continued its growth. Soon we found ourselves needing new office space and found a great location just a couple doors down. Along the way I also met my husband who had worked with Chris and John in the past and was brought in to do some contract work. After our wedding we decided to start a family right away and Chris and John were fantastic and very supportive. When my maternity leave was finished they graciously allowed for me to come back as a part-time employee so I could still spend quality time with my daughter – which I guess is one of the perks of being the longest employee! Upon my return there were so many new people to meet and the office now our third space, had been completely renovated to take up half of an entire floor… and that was just the office changes, never mind the explosion of Social media! When I left the word ‘twitter’ was not in my vocabulary and we just started working with Facebook. Once I settled in, I soon discovered how much I actually missed working and just being part of the awesome office culture that has always been so important to the boys.
You’re rarely bored with online marketing and I still find my job exciting and challenging… I don’t know how many people can say that after 8 ½ years these days. I’m so proud of what Chris and John have accomplished so far and am excited for the future. I truly feel lucky to be a part of such a dynamic and forward thinking company.
