We all know that digital marketing is a tactic one must incorporate into their marketing strategy in order to remain competitive in this day and age. But do you know where to spend your marketing dollars wisely or how far your digital budget can stretch and still effectively provide the results you hope to achieve?

The 2012 Digital Marketing Budget Calculator

At 6S, we hear questions like these all the time. So we developed a tool to show companies how much of a budget they should be spending on their digital marketing, as well as which marketing channels they can use effectively within the budget they have allocated towards their digital marketing efforts.

The tool, a digital marketing budget calculator, was developed based upon current trends indicating that businesses are allocating 25% of their total marketing budget to digital marketing. We found this percentage while performing the research we used to develop the calculator and turned the trends and stats we found into a nifty infographic.

The digital marketing budget calculator is a free online tool available to businesses ranging in size from $0.5 million to $10 million a year in annual revenue. Business who wish to use the calculator can simply plug-in their annual revenue, target market location, and time frame and instantly see an illustration of how much budget they should be allocating to each digital channel including mobile marketing, social media, email and search engine budgets.

    Excellent idea guys. I’m always curious about the benefits of social marketing vs the other tactics when it comes to generating B2B revenues.

    Hmm…this is a very simplistic approach that could be quite dangerous. It doesn’t seem to account for any client-based details a normal needs assessment would measure…goals / audience targets / purpose of advertising / specific client type…for instance, it’s known only 20% of consumers ever click a Google PPC ad, but 85% of online readers exposed to display ads on content sites will take further action without ever clicking the ad…how are your percentages allocating for these things?

    Absolutely! The principal behind the calculator can be used for any business – just take 5% of total revenue to figure out total marketing budget, then take 25% of your total budget and allocate towards digital marketing. Regardless of small business or large, $1K budget or $1M, the principal can be used by a company of any size.

    Hi Chris,

    We developed this calculator to be a “high level” budget calculator and suggest it only be used for estimates. Our percentages do not account for the end-user’s behavior with the ads as this ultimately does not affect the budget you should allocate towards your marketing.
